What Causes Bed Bugs

Where do bed bugs come from

Prevent Bed Bugs

Bed bugs are an infestation that are independent of cleanliness.  Bed bugs are nocturnal extremely insidious creatures that hunt for blood.  They are clever enough to hide in electrical outlets in your walls or even if you stop sleeping in your bed and move to your couch to get away from them, they will hunt you down by honing in on the carbon dioxide and heat you are emitting.  I mean to scare you into taking them seriously and taking immediate action by following thorough preventative steps.  Remember the alien movies, bed bugs are a small version of those insidious creatures – think small blood sucking insects that can multiply quickly and will hunt you down and feed on you relentlessly.

It is not uncommon for people to be bit several hundred times in a night.

They are a serious, serious problem that will rage out of control as the colony that feeds on you and your family grows and grows resulting in more and more bites every night.

The psychological trauma from bed bug invasions can be more damaging and disrupting to your life than the ever increasing nettlesome and itchy bites.

There is no relief until you comprehensively deal with the problem.

What causes bed bugs to develop into a serious problem is a lack of knowledge, awareness and care that leads you to unknowingly bring them home.

Almost wiped out from North America for many years, pest control companies have reported that bed bugs are at epidemic levels and growing.

You must be careful when you sleep at any hotel.  Even expensive, luxury hotels are not immune from bed bugs.  Check for the tell tale bed bug signs when you first enter your hotel room.  Pull back the sheets and look for their black pepper spray fecal matter which can be found on the sheets and/or mattress near the headboard.  Also, there may be blood and bed bug casings on the bed.  (For more information go to bedbugssigns.com).

Think twice about bringing your pillow from home or leaving your personal belongings on the bed and then putting them in your suitcase.  Put your suitcase and bags on metal stands away from the bed.

DO NOT COME HOME FROM A TRIP AND PUT YOUR SUITCASES UNDER YOUR BED OR IN YOUR BEDROOM.  Leave them in your garage or in a storage area away from your living space and then wash all your clothes.  YOUR DRYER IS VITAL AS SUSTAINED HEAT CAN KILL THEM AND THEIR EGGS.

BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL AND WARY ABOUT BUYING USED FURNITURE!

READ THE REVIEWS OF ANY APARTMENT YOU ARE CONSIDERING MOVING INTO OR ANY HOTEL/MOTEL YOU ARE GOING TO STAY AT.

If you think you have bed bugs you must act and TAKE IMMEDIATE DECISIVE ACTION.

The best way to determine if you have bed bugs is to contact a reputable pest control company that has a specially trained dog that can detect bed bugs.  The dog must have completed a comprehensive and intense bed bug detection training program at a special facility.  A dog’s ability to smell is ten thousand times greater than ours and they can sniff bed bugs out and let you know that you have them more reliably than anyone or anything else.

Although frequent bites at night, black fecal pepper spraying on the mattress along with blood and bed bug casings are overwhelming evidence that demands action, these dogs can help locate specifically where the colony(ies) is/are.

At a minimum, bed bug mattress and pillow covers are good investments as preventative measures to ensure bed bugs can never enter into your mattress and boxspring.  This would at least save you from having to throw your mattress and boxspring out if they are infested with bed bugs.  If you do suspect that you may have bed bugs, interceptors on the legs of your bed can help determine if the bed bugs are in the mattress/box spring or coming to dine on you external to the bed. I recognize that this sounds more like science fiction, but it is not.  These critters are unbelievable and if left unchecked, they will expand to hide in walls, in inaccessible parts of furniture and if they are not dealt with immediately their numbers will grow and grow and bite and bite.  One pest control expert advised me it is not unheard of for bed bugs to climb up on walls onto the ceiling and then fall (jump) off the ceiling to get onto the bed to get access to their next blood meal  — you.
